COSTA PLENTY GARDENS - Nov 25

In November a large contingent of our Gardening Group made their way to Dural to visit the garden of Costa Plenty.   En route we enjoyed morning tea at Cafe Verde, part of the now closed Swane’s Nursery.

Over the past 50 years, Margaret and Serje  Pelleri have developed this beautiful three-acre garden on Carters Road, Dural.  It is full of beautiful mature trees. There are many jacarandas that were in beautiful bloom. The garden is full of exotic plants, Iceberg roses, azaleas, hydrangeas, gardenias, camellias, irises, crepe myrtles and many others. There are gentle lawns flowing throughout.

Acres of manicured lawns and shrubs

The property was once part of a parcel of ten acres and was divided into seven acre and three acre lots.  Margaret and Serje purchased the three acres and farmed the orchard of plum trees for three years before converting the garden to their own design. From originally knowing nothing about gardens, fifty years later they have this beautiful haven of tranquillity.

The property is managed by Margaret, her daughter and son-in-law without outside help.  They are constantly redesigning and upgrading. The new 'summerhouse' is a beautiful bespoke addition designed and built by Margaret’s son-in-law, Greg.

A few of us stayed on for lunch at Galston Club.  Margaret Pelleri kindly joined us and we were very pleased to continue our chat with her.

Thank you to Mariee Jones who helped facilitate the visit to Costa Plenty.
