BONDI JUNCTION TO BRONTE via SCULPTURES by the SEA - Nov 25

Possibly, because of Don’s warning that there were 94 stairs on this walk, only 13 souls ventured out on a misty day in Westleigh.  Fortunately, having trained to Bondi Junction, while having coffee (and muffins?) at Savta café just outside the shopping complex, the sky cleared.  It was an easy going, downhill, 2.5km walk along Bondi Road to Icebergs at Bondi Beach.  The views looking out over the beach were spectacular.

Then it was time to join the crowds – we thought everyone would be at work on Monday!

This was the final day of the Sculptures by the Sea 2025, and it was busy!  Staying together as a group proved impossible, but this wasn’t a problem as we knew to meet at Marks Park.

But, at one of the lowest points in the Coastal Walk, the boardwalk was closed due to the collapse of a portion of the cliff a few months ago.  Remedial work was scheduled to be complete at the end of November so in the interim, we had to climb a set of 94 stairs from almost sea level up to Marks Park.  We all managed thankfully.

As is always the case, there were many innovative and creative artworks along the way.  Many of them were not easy to ‘understand’, but we admired the effort invested.

Marks Park hosted the indoor art, some of which are miniatures of what was displayed on the cliff faces, and some stand-alone artworks.  The attention to details on these ‘masterpieces’ was impressive.

After a stroll through the indoor art marquee, we meandered around Marks Park and then selected the coastal path to Tamarama.  In total there were over 100 pieces of art and we all missed a few!

Some of us enjoyed BYO lunch at Tamarama Beach Park, while others ventured further to Bronte, where we ordered simple café food (and a beer!).

After the lunch break, it was onto a bus and trains to reach home.  A lovely day, although most of us were a bit exhausted after at least an 8km walk.
