RYDALMERE WHARF to PARRAMATTA - Aug 2026
The August walk was from Rydalmere Wharf to Parramatta, a short stroll, though not without its dangers!
On a cold and overcast morning we trained to Meadowbank station. The group of 21 descended on the quiet hamlet of Meadowbank for coffee and then walked to the 800m to the Meadowbank wharf. After a short ferry ride to Rydalmere wharf, we had a gentle, flat 4kms stroll to Parramatta.
On the way we paused at the over 200 year old Female Orphans School (Welcome to the Female Orphan School) and the ‘policy think tank’ Whitlam Institute (Whitlam Institute Our Story), both of which are now in the grounds of the University of Western Sydney.

A headstone dating back to 1839 confirms how long ago Parramatta was established
Shortly thereafter we had some hoon come by on his electric bike cursing and generally acting like an idiot by not slowing down when he saw a large group of people on the pathway.
We did not let him spoil our day as we then stopped at the Albion Hotel, originally constructed in 1882, rebuilt in 1924, for some well-earned lunch ($20 for a lovely steak plus drink!!!) before heading home by train or bus.
