SHAW'S GARDENS - Aug 2025
On Wednesday the 27th August the Gardening Group enjoyed a visit to a beautiful garden in Bayview Heights.
First, we gathered at Tastebuds, Terrey Hills and enjoyed coffee and cake and a wander around the flower market. Then we moved onto Bayview.

There we had a fascinating hour and a half wandering around the beautiful garden with our hosts Nancy and Ted Shaw guiding the way. The Shaw’s moved into an existing house in Bayview Heights in 2001 and since then have transformed their 0.4-hectare (1-acre) triangular corner block into a horticultural mosaic of garden types with beautiful views of the Pittwater through the large Eucalypts and Turpentines.

The back section overlooking the Pittwater has largely native plants with many Sydney Rock Orchids and grass trees set amongst the rocky outcrops. Croweas, Hardenbergias and Eriostemons were all out in flower. We were a little too early for the dendrobiums and rock orchids after our very cold winter - they are late in blooming.

Nancy and Ted also cultivate an extensive nursery of potted plants. In addition, there is also a tropical garden adjacent to the driveway on the western side and the lillypillies shield the native section from the road.
Nancy and Ted kindly shared not only their time but gave us cuttings and propagation mix with instructions on how to do so.
The garden is littered with Dendrobiums and rock orchids

We ended at the Bayview Golf Club and had lunch overlooking the golf course. The weather, while cloudy, was a big improvement on the previous week and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day.
